Whirlpool makes their control lock very confusing.

Often times people will look on the control panel and the control lock light will go on and they can not figure out how to unlock the control panel.  They will try pressing and holding the cancel button and unplugging the washer or dryer to reset it.  None of these options work.

All you need to do is press and “hold the end of cycle” button for 3 seconds and the control panel will unlock.

This is a quick DIY repair that you can do on your own if the problem should arise.

  3. Replaced main board in my 5 year old Duet Dryer. Turn on when I plugged it in so I unplugged so I could open door to stop. When plugged back it got PF code. Unplugged again then plugged in again and code was gone but Control Locked was on. Turn that off with End Cycle button. Now no LED light were on. Pushed Control On button and Sensing light came on dimly. Held button about three seconds and Control Lock came on. Tried to turn off with End Cycle button but would not turn off. Tried Control on button and after three seconds the Control Lock went off. Now the End Cycle will not turn the Control Lock on or off but the Control On button will. The only thing working is the Control Lock LED and a dim Sensing LED when Control On is held. PLEASE HELP/
    • Bill,

You have a bad user inter face control board. This is a fairly common dryer repair on this model With the model number I can provide a link where you could purchase the part.

  4. Hi – my control locked light is on and the dryer won’t start. There is no “end of cycle” button on mine and the “Control On’ , “Push to Start” and “Cancel” buttons do nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks!
    • Hi,

From your description I would guess the user inter face control has failed. I would need the model number and a little more information from you. Post back with the model number and I will take a look at the service manual for you friend!

  5. Thank you, this quick fix worked greatly for me and relieved some stress.

  11. Whirlpool Duet Model GEW9250PW0

Controls Locked and End of Cycle signal button has no effect when held down for 3 seconds or even longer.

Unplugging the machine did not clear it either.

    Any suggestions?

  12. Bless you for posting this!
  13. I have a Whirlpool duet HT front loader with the “Control Locked” button permanently on. I tried the hold for three seconds option on the cancel button and tried every other variation of holding all buttons with no luck. I disconnected from power for a day and no change. I ordered a new interface control panel and installed it. The new panel has the same light stuck on control locked.

Any ideas on what to try next?

    Thanks!!

    Cliff

    • Cliff, what is the model number of your washing machine? What is the part number that you replaced?

Have you tried holding down the “End Of Cycle” button for 5 seconds?

The only things that cause the locked light to stay on are a bad user interface control board or the button is pressed..

  14. After being powered off for a couple days I went and flipped the breaker back on. I reinstalled the original control panel interface an the control lock light went away. This is strange as I previously tried the whole power off thing several times. I also tried as you suggested. I held every button plus every button while pressing other buttons as well. I hope this stays working now.

My model number is : GHW9400PW0

  15. Hi! I have a whirlpool duet dryer that is getting the F25 code. I cleaned out the residual lint in the trap as well as the hose. Power/light display works, as does the interior light, but when I hit start it just beeps 4 times. Any ideas?
    • Hi, this is an inlet thermistor error code. I would ohm the thermistor out first. I have also seen the high limit thermostat cause this error code.
  16. Worked for me. Thanks a bunch.
  17. I have a Whirlpool Duet washer. The Control Lock light is on. I do not have a “End Of Cycle” button that I can see. I have tried holding down each button for at least 3 seconds. Nothing works. Please advise. Thank You!

  20. I have a whirlpool duet dryer that seams to be locked up, the following buttons are dimly lit;
    Casual under the automatic cycles
Timed dry under the manual cycles
Air only in the temperature button area.

I have unplugged it for several minutes, checked the lint crap to make sure it is clear as well as the vent to the outside. I cannot seem to get any response at all.

    Thank You

  22. On my Whirlpool Duet front load washer control lock light wont shut off. Also I try hold power button and it doesnt turn on. I tried unpluggin it and reseting the breaker. neither of these help. There is no end of cycle button neither. not sure where to find model or serial numbers.Any advice?
    • Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment.

If your model doesn’t have an End of cycle button, then there is a dedicated control lock button on the panel.

If holding that button down for 5 seconds does not work, the user interface most likely has a short.

      Thanks

  23. This was awesome! Helped me out big time!! Thank you!!
  24. Thank you!!! My dryer is so old I thought it was broke. I wasn’t willing to someone and was thinking I had to buy a new one. Again, thank you so much for sharing!!

  25. I have a Whirlpool Duet dryer that is about 3 years old model #gew9250pw0. I am unable to change any of the settings. I have held the “end of cycle signal” button for more than 15 seconds. It is running and heating, but only on high heat. The signal is on loud. I am unable to change any of these settings. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
  26. I have a whirlpool duet dryer and the control lock button is stuck on. I can hold down the end of cycle button for 3 + seconds and still it does not unlock. Is there any other way that I can unlock the control panel.
  27. I was just sitting here on my computer when I heard a beaping, followed it and found it to be my duet dryer, the control lock button flashes and beaps, I tried the fix you are saying, holding the end cycle button for 3 seconds and nothing happens. Door open, door closed, I change the cycles and nothing still. I did notice that the delicate cycle light is faintly on and the wrinkle shield light is faintly on. Any suggestions??
    • Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

It sounds like the user interface board has failed. Try unplugging the unit for 30 minutes sometimes that will fix the issue.

  28. Worked perfectly!!!! fixed in less than 3 secs!!! thanks a bunch…. Does anyone know why the control light was locked in the first place?
    • Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment.

Usually the button gets bumped accidentally. Another thing that causes this is the user interface. When the board goes bad it causes this issue for some reason.

  29. On my model (a newer one) the “Control lock” button was the key, though it was not clear that it was a button at all. There was a touch sensor under the control lock light itself, that unlocked the controls when I held it for three seconds.
    • Peter, thank you for taking the time to comment.

On the newer model your right there is a dedicated control lock button.

  30. I have a whirlpool duet dryer (model ggw9250pwo). Two days ago it was working. Today I washed a load, threw it into the dryer and the dryer will not turn on. I pushed the control on button like always to tart my cycle. Nothing. Tried the end of signal tip and still nothing. I ran a diagnostic test and get 69. Read on another forum this is supposedly a g9 and indicates a faulty door switch. My father-in-law checked all of the electrical components for burns/damages and used a meter. Everything checked out. Now I’ve got 2 loads of wet laundry. Contacted the appliance store where we purchased and they were no help.
    • Hi, thank you for taking the time to comment. If you push the door/light switch in does it click?

There is a small non resettable fuse down on the blower housing. Does that small thin fuse have continuity?

      Thanks
