Whirlpool makes their control lock very confusing.

Often times people will look on the control panel and the control lock light will go on and they can not figure out how to unlock the control panel.  They will try pressing and holding the cancel button and unplugging the washer or dryer to reset it.  None of these options work.

All you need to do is press and “hold the end of cycle” button for 3 seconds and the control panel will unlock.

This is a quick DIY repair that you can do on your own if the problem should arise.

  3. Replaced main board in my 5 year old Duet Dryer. Turn on when I plugged it in so I unplugged so I could open door to stop. When plugged back it got PF code. Unplugged again then plugged in again and code was gone but Control Locked was on. Turn that off with End Cycle button. Now no LED light were on. Pushed Control On button and Sensing light came on dimly. Held button about three seconds and Control Lock came on. Tried to turn off with End Cycle button but would not turn off. Tried Control on button and after three seconds the Control Lock went off. Now the End Cycle will not turn the Control Lock on or off but the Control On button will. The only thing working is the Control Lock LED and a dim Sensing LED when Control On is held. PLEASE HELP/

    • Bill,

You have a bad user inter face control board. This is a fairly common dryer repair on this model With the model number I can provide a link where you could purchase the part.

  4. Hi – my control locked light is on and the dryer won’t start. There is no “end of cycle” button on mine and the “Control On’ , “Push to Start” and “Cancel” buttons do nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • Hi,

From your description I would guess the user inter face control has failed. I would need the model number and a little more information from you. Post back with the model number and I will take a look at the service manual for you friend!

    • Hello, if there is a no end of cycle button then there is a control lock button on the far right side. If that does not unlock the control, then the user interface may need to be checked.

  8. I have a 3 month old Whirlpool Duet Steam dryer model #9750. I push power, then press and hold start. It lights up normally, but the dryer doesn’t start. I’ve plugged and unplugged it, made sure the door was shut, and still nothing. The dryer does not have an end of cycle button. Please help!

  10. I have a duet dryer. When I plugged it in 2 horizontal lines but no time on timer. Unplugged and plugged back in to no avail. I pushed the end of cycle button for 3 seconds etc. etc. Nothing. I do however have 3 various size hammers, regular, framing, and I’ll show you.

  11. Whirlpool Duet Model GEW9250PW0

Controls Locked and End of Cycle signal button has no effect when held down for 3 seconds or even longer.

Unplugging the machine did not clear it either.

    Any suggestions?

  12. Bless you for posting this!

  13. I have a Whirlpool duet HT front loader with the “Control Locked” button permanently on. I tried the hold for three seconds option on the cancel button and tried every other variation of holding all buttons with no luck. I disconnected from power for a day and no change. I ordered a new interface control panel and installed it. The new panel has the same light stuck on control locked.

Any ideas on what to try next?

    • Cliff, what is the model number of your washing machine? What is the part number that you replaced?

Have you tried holding down the “End Of Cycle” button for 5 seconds?

The only things that cause the locked light to stay on are a bad user interface control board or the button is pressed..

  14. After being powered off for a couple days I went and flipped the breaker back on. I reinstalled the original control panel interface an the control lock light went away. This is strange as I previously tried the whole power off thing several times. I also tried as you suggested. I held every button plus every button while pressing other buttons as well. I hope this stays working now.

My model number is : GHW9400PW0

  15. Hi! I have a whirlpool duet dryer that is getting the F25 code. I cleaned out the residual lint in the trap as well as the hose. Power/light display works, as does the interior light, but when I hit start it just beeps 4 times. Any ideas?

    • Hi, this is an inlet thermistor error code. I would ohm the thermistor out first. I have also seen the high limit thermostat cause this error code.

  16. Thanks work perfectly for me. save time and money .

    Thank You
