Kitchen Aid dishwashers are really good dishwashers. I own one and recommend them all the time to customers looking for a new dishwasher. However just like everything out there today they still have problems. You see no matter what brand dishwasher you buy it will eventually have an issue or two..

These newer Kitchen Aid dishwashers use an auxiliary drain motor to drain the water. So there is a main wash motor that sprays the water and cleans the dishes and a drain motor off to the side that drains the water. There are a couple different reasons why the dishwasher would stop draining.

1. Drain hose has obstruction: You can remove the drain hose where it connects to either the disposal or the standpipe and check for restrictions. Often times you will find a seed or some other object stopping the flow of water. Continue reading »

Have a Bosch dishwasher that won’t drain? This could be a very common issue and also a very simply fix. If you press the second and fourth button at the same time, does the dishwasher drain the water? If not, you could have a pump, hose, or air gap issue.

On these particular dishwashers the engineers decided to use an auxiliary drain motor to drain the water. So these units have drain and wash motor. The drain motor is located on the left side of the sump. Continue reading »

Frigidaire dishwashers are well built machines. They do however have at least one common issue just like most other appliances. The Er error code on these Frigidaire dishwashers usually means a touch pad or key pad failure.

One of the first things I always do before I replace the touch pad is go to the breaker box and reset the dishwasher breaker. This will often times reset the machine and either temporarily fix the error code or permanently fix the error code. It’s not a cure all but it’s worth a shot since it works fairly often.

If the breaker reset trick did not or does not help, then you will most likely have to replace the actual keypad on the dishwasher. To do so you first need to go back to the breaker box and kill power to the dishwasher. Next you would need to remove the screws going around the control panel and door panel. Once the front of the control panel and door is removed, you will see the small plug and play type connections for the touch-pad/keypad assembly.

I have had decent luck taking an eraser and trying to softly clean the ribbon cable where it connects to the computer control board. Again it’s worth a shot because it’s free and only takes a few minutes times to get inside to try it. If it does not work, then unfortunately the keypad needs to be replaced. From the inside you can now see how simply it is to unscrew the remaining screws and take the panel off. All the connections are plug and play type so it’s very straight forward.

Changing the Frigidaire Affinity door boot is probably one of the toughest boots to change in my opinion. The rear spring is a real pain in the rear to try and get back on. When these boots first started needing to be changed the manufacture was sending two small tools to help with this job. In the last few months Frigidaire has stopped sending the small tool. I started using small clamps to hold the spring in place. 4 of them work perfectly. Be sure to use the ones that have rubber on the end that way the boot will not be punctured.

I actually remove the top, control, and the front panel to do this repair. It makes sense for me because I can have the unit apart in under 5 minutes and it saves me about 20 trying to fight to get the spring back around the door boot. The top has two screws on it and the control has two on the end caps and three behind the soap dispenser. The front has 5 depending on the serial on top and four on the bottom panel. If the washing machine is on a pedestal you will need to tip the washer back to see the screws on the bottom of the washer that need to be removed to take the front off. Like I said I do this because it gives me more room and saves me time. I do know Technicians that can do this job with leaving the front on but I have not yet masted this nor do I care to. I think I’ve tried twice to do this job with the front on.

I found a video on line that explains this process and will save you much needed time and probably some stress. I hope this Affinity Door Boot article and video link has helped you save some coin. washer repair service

Preventing a Refrigerator service call will not only save you money(we all like saving money) it will also add life to your Refrigerator. Not only is setting up a refrigerator call time consuming it also cost a lot of money to have a refrigerator service man come out to the house.

Were here to help save the day and your pocketbook. Preventative maintenance can go a long way in preventing the refrigerator service man from coming out.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “clean your condenser coils” If you haven’t, I’m here to say it..clean your condenser coils. Cleaning them will not only keep the refrigerator service man away but it will also keep that refrigerator sitting in the kitchen a lot longer.

What happens when you don’t bother to keep the condenser coils clean? Well, the refrigerator not only has to labor harder, the refrigerator will use way more electric then it was designed to. When this happens the electric bill goes up along with the possibilities of the refrigerator going out from working harder then it was designed to.

The heat transfer happens at the coils. The freon system is pulling warmth out of the food and air inside from you opening the doors and trying to push that “heat” out of the coils. When you have excessive dirt/lint build up on the condenser coils that heat can not transfer correctly and the machine will have to run a lot longer to draw that warmth out of the food and air inside.

On most side by side refrigerators the condenser coils are located behind the toe kick on the bottom. On built in refrigerators such as, Sub Zero, Kitchen aid, Ge monogram, and Dacor the condenser coils will most likely be on the top. Now Sub Zero refrigerators can have coils on the bottom or top depending the model. Not sure where your coils are? Use the “Appliance Repair Forum” link at the top of this page or the “Contact Us” link on the bottom right of this page and one of us would be happy to help you find yours.

Using a condenser coil brush is going to be the best bet to get your refrigerator coils clean thus keeping the refrigerator service man away! This small brush is actually designed to fit in the tight space behind the toe kick. The way that seems to work the best for me is to get the vacuum out and leave it running next to the coils while I’m cleaning them.  Doing this prevents the dirt and dust from flying all over the place while I’m cleaning the refrigerator condenser coils.

This is something that should be done once a year or more especially more if you have animals in the house. Animal hair sticks to the coils and then the dirt and dust  sticks to the hair and the build up on the coils happens quicker. If you do have animals in the house, you may need to clean the coils every six months to keep the refrigerator service man at bay..
