Samsung top load washing machines have several common issue. As you google your washers problem you’ll see lots of different issues arise. On the top load units they have their own set of common issue vs their brethren front loader.

Top load Samsung washers that are not draining usually have one thing in common. The drain pump has either failed, is clogged with debris, or on Samsung’s the wire’s to the drain pump on the left side of the washer may have been damaged during the last spin cycle.

Yes, these washers have an issue where the drain pump wire connection will break. When this happen the washer will require a new kit. The new kit comes with a new pump that mounts differently as well as a new wire harness. The wire harness that is supplied with the kit runs from the control board down to the motor and drain pump. The small stator motor that delivers power to the basket inside will need to be dropped down. The harness comes as an assembly which requires the entire wire harness be replaced as well as the new updated kit.

A factory trained Samsung washer repair technician would be best suited for this job if you do not feel confident enough dropping the motor and replacing the wire harness.

If you’re handy on the other handy, you can make this repair yourself.

Firstly, make sure the washers pump is not just clogged. Often times the small impeller inside the motor has debris preventing the impeller from rotating. If that’s the case with your washer, great! If not, you will need to dig a little deeper.

Things to check when your Samsung washer is not draining:

Voltage to motor: Is the auxiliary drain motor getting 110v? Using a volt meter is best a voltage tester does not give you an accurate voltage reading. The drain pump on these units run off 110v. If the pump does not receive the full 110v, the drain pump will not run.

Broken Drain Pump Wire: Read post above if you’ve found the drain pump wires broken. The washing machine will require a new kit that fixes this issue and relocates the drain pump assembly.

Drain Pump Impeller Blocked: The drain pump impeller on these units are often just blocked with debris. Is could be a small bobbie pin, under wire, or a tooth pick..you never know what you’ll find that’s blocking the impeller.

Samsung refrigerators have a diagnostics mode. The fastest and easiest way to access diagnostic mode is by pressing the top left and top right button in at the same time and holding for a few minutes. This will send the refrigerators on board computer into a pre programed diagnostic mode. If any error codes have been stored in the computer it will be displayed at this point.

If no error codes are displayed, you’ll see 88 88 all the segments will be full. When a samsung refrigerator error code is displayed one of the small lines or segments will be flashing and the rest of the 88 will disappear.  You will usually get the #2 error code for the ice maker sensor.

Samsung does not use a normal ice maker. Nothing about these refrigerators are normal though. They use a small sensor that tells the ice maker when the water has actually frozen. One the water freezes the ice maker needs to harvest it so it can call for water and fill again. This process usually takes between 2-4 hours. Every 2-4 hours the ice maker should be cycling on it’s own. Several things can cause slow ice production but for this article lets stick to the ice maker sensor error code..

Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker Sensor Error:

The #2 error usually indicates an issue with the ice maker sensor. The sensor runs from the front of the ice maker where the timer motor is located to the bottom of the flex mold. Samsung and LG are known for their flex tray designs. Even Frigidaire has released their version of the flex tray. The sensor is a lot more accurate than a normal bi metal that’s found in a conventional Whirlpool style ice maker assembly.

Usually when this fault code is displayed the ice maker timer assembly will need to be replaced. Look on the bottom of the mold for a thin wire that goes to a bullet snapped plastic piece. Yes, that plastic piece is the actual sensor. The small plastic clip on the bracket usually breaks off. When that happens the sensor will fall down and it will eventually get crushed and broken. The wire will normally get cut in half. I’ve seen it countless times. Depending on your model you can get just the timer assembly and others you have to replace the ice maker as an assembly.

The ice maker on most of these units are mounted in the freezer on the left side. The ice maker has a small plastic facia that must be popped off. There’s a small clip that holds the plastic piece to the front of the ice maker. Gently pull out the cover will pop off. You will then see straight up there’s two holes. Up inside is two screws. Once the screws are removed the ice maker will slide forward and hand by the wire harness. The harness has a small tab that needs to be depressed in order for the molex connector to unplug. It’s actually very straight forward to fix this error code. The repair is not very complicated more time consuming.

Samsung refrigerators have several common issue just like most other brands. I get several emails a week asking how to remove the front dispenser control on a samsung refrigerator.

Removing the dispenser on these bottom mount refrigerators is actually very straight forward. It does not require any special tools to get it off.

The dispenser is held in place with four small tabs. Two on each side. There is a screw on the bottom side of the dispenser but it does not need to be removed. You can remove the dispenser by grabbing the bottom where the ice comes out and pulling. The dispenser will come forward giving you access to the wires on the back of the control.

Take a picture of the wire connections so you can plug the wires back into the corresponding connections. The repair is actually very straight forward on Samsung refrigerators.
